An uncompetitive Class 5 handicap. PORTRUSH STORM, stepping up in trip, was given an able ride by David Nolan, who produced her to take command inside the last before driving her clear. She is lightly raced and there could be more to come from her.

Chaenomeles, who had shown next to nothing in her two previous starts this season, ran a good deal better here and indeed looked the most likely winner for most of the race, until, after being sent clear over two furlongs out, was wearily worried out of it inside the last.

Petandra was not disgraced on her handicap debut.
