South Central made all, shaken up and quickened clear over 1f out, eased well inside final furlong, impressive
What A Fella slowly into stride, behind until headway over 1f out, went second inside final furlong, no chance with winner
Hel´s Angel towards rear, driven and headway on outside over 1f out, kept on final furlong, nearest finish
Abu Derby unruly in preliminaries, in touch, effort 2f out, one pace final furlong
Faraway Sound prominent, effort 2f out, kept on same pace final furlong
Bragging Rights tracked leaders, effort and went second over 1f out, weakened inside final furlong
Chipolini tracked leaders until ridden and weakened over 1f out
Northumberland close up until ridden and weakened over 1f out
Kheylide unruly in paddock, dwelt, always behind
Court Judgement missed break, always outpaced
Lonsdale Lad behind and outpaced, never on terms
There was a mixed bag in this two-year-old race, a couple of which had respectable form. None of them, however, was in the same league as SOUTH CENTRAL, who was head and shoulders over his rivals in ability and won by 13 lengths, a margin which would probably have been extended to 20 had he not been eased down in the final 75 yards.
Quite how good he is, is anybody's guess, but this was a hugely impressive debut from this American-bred colt, who had been purchased for £60,000 at the Doncaster Breeze-Up Sales.
What A Fella shaped well on his debut to come out best of the rest, just ahead of his stablemate Hel's Angel. Both should have benefited from their experience.
Faraway Sound came into this race with sound enough credentials, not least on his recent narrow defeat at Newcastle. Here, though, he failed to show the same level of form. Perhaps this race came a shade too quickly for him after Newcastle.
Bragging Rights failed to build on his debut performance.
