A maximum field for this prestigious and competitive handicap chase, and a 22-1 winner in BROOKLYN BROWNIE, who benefited from an admirably patient ride to run out a worthy winner. Although he'd never previously won at this distance, his trainer always felt he'd stay well enough to do so, provided he was switched off in the early stages and allowed to creep into the race. Phil Kinsella rode a lovely race on him and took command going to the final fence. It was the winner's third course success.

Snoopy Loopy went down fighting in second and produced a very able display under 11st 5lb. The first two finished clear of the rest, headed by Megaton, a stablemate of Snoopy Loopy, who remains in good form.

The fitting of first-time blinkers conjured a pretty good run from Thistlecraft, who was making his first appearance for three months, but who weakened sharply from two out.

McEvoy, who raced on top of the pace, was constantly harried for the lead and came up short when the race began in earnest.

Newton Bridge, who made up ground early on the final circuit, could produce only a short-lived effort and, after dropping away, hewas pulled up two out. He had gone up 19lb in the ratings and the handicapper probably has his measure for the time being.
