There were no superstars involved in this first contest, with thetop weight rated 104, but all bar three of the line up had already notched at least one success over jumps and two were last-time-out winners.
WEET YER TURN was one of the hurdling maidens in the field, although he had collected on the Flat, but he registered his first success in this sphere under a well-judged waiting ride from Liam Treadwell.
Held up in the early stages, while Dennick and Macchiato set off at such a gallop that they may have cut each others throat, Weet Yer Turn closed steadily in the home straight, began to make more speedy progress approaching the second last flight and, despite a bad mistake at the last, scored with a little to spare.
This race arguably panned out nicely for him, though, in that several of his rivals made even worse errors at the business end, and, as he was already due to rise 5lb in the ratings for future handicaps, he may not find it easy to stage a quick follow-up.
That cannot be said of third-placed Anticipating, twice a winner over hurdles in the autumn of 2005 and having his first run for 433 days, who was sent on a long northward journey for this by his astute Sussex-based trainer, Gary Moore.
He would certainly have made an even greater impact if he had not been hampered and virtually stopped in his tracks when Dennick fell two out and, given that he is sure to improve for this delayed return to action, the eight-year-old is worth noting.
Storm Prospect never looked likely to add to the win he posted in a Perth claimer on his previous outing, while Macchiato faded tamely after his early exertions.
