Rathmulen always prominent, led after 4 out, jumped left when pressed from 2 out, headed narrowly when jumped left again last, rallied to regain lead final 100yds, ran on
Chigorin patiently ridden, steady headway from 9th, went 2nd 3 out, strong challenge from 2 out, led narrowly last, headed final 100yds and held closs home
Investment Affair held up, pushed along approaching 4 out, effort before 3 out, one pace from 2 out
King Diamond raced keenly, held up, headway approaching 7th, ridden to chase leaders before 3 out, one pace from 2 out
Champagne Rossini led to 3rd, remained handy, ridden and beaten 2 out
Hansomelle midfield, driven after 4 out, soon weakened
Busy Man pulled hard, headway to lead 3rd, headed after 4 out, soon weakened
He´s My Man chased leaders to 5th, soon lost place, struggling from 7th
Charlie Castallan behing, ridden along after 6th, toiling after, tailed off
Not much strength in depth to this novice handicap chase, with only a few of these having solid form over fences, but the first two were unexposed and they pulled clear of a recent winner, so they may well be ahead of the handicapper.
Point-to-point winner RATHMULEN had been disappointing over hurdles, but the switch to fences and fitting of a tongue-strap look to have been the making of him as he was always to the fore, led after 4 out and rallied once headed at the last to regain the advantage on the run-in for a game success.
He tended to jumpleft on occasions and looks still to be less than the finished article, so there is probably improvement still in him and he could well win again in run-of-the-mill company.
Bangor winner Investment Affair seemed to find this too much of a test of speed, unable to find the pace to get to grip with the principals.
King Diamond was a shade keen and that may explain his being unable to find much from 2 out, while Champagne Rossini is exposed as a modest maiden and was another left behind from 2 out.
The remainder were well held.
