Fairlight Shadow waited with off the pace in midfield, closed on leaders 7th, chased leader after 9th, ridden and every chance before 2 out, unable to quicken last 100yds
Standandbecounted led, ridden after 3 out, mistake 2 out, headed between last 2, soon beaten
Stars Delight held up well behind, headway and ridden after 9th, never able to challenge
Deo Gratias with leader, mistake 9th, soon ridden and lost place, well beaten when mistake 2 out
Domenico held up well off the pace in rear, some headway after 9th, no impression after next
Big John Macarty well off the pace in midfield, not fluent 6th, lost touch after next, no danger after
Felix Rex always behind, no chance when hit 3 out and last
Galandora held up in rear, headway 6th, chased leaders going well when mistake 9th, weakened quickly 3 out
Business Traveller always behind, mistake 3rd, ridden 5th, tailed off from 8th
The winner was making a quick return to hurdling after jumping badly throughout in a chase at Worcester a fortnight ago, and clearly appreciated this switch back to the smaller obstacles.
Act Gold, who was not disgraced from out of the handicap at Aintree last time, was again wrong at the weights, but he looked the likely winner approaching the last flight. However, he was awkward at that flight, which possibly cost him victory.
Standandbecounted, a long way out of the handicap but galvanised by a first-time visor, may have been a shade unlucky in that he was taken on for the lead by Deo Gratias for over a circuit. He still did not give up without a fight, but eventually ran out of steam on the run to the last flight.
