Toni Alcala raced in last place, jumped slowly 4th, ridden and lost touch 7th, tailed off 9th, ran on approaching last, went poor 3rd flat
Miss Colmesnil chased leaders, in touch until ridden 11th, weakened next, lost 3rd after last, tailed off
Different Class chased winner, ridden 11th, lost 2nd after 3 out, soon weakened, well beaten when eased and pulled up 2 out
Analyis of the race
ORFEO CONTI had not been seen since running second at Ludlow in January, the horse having been sidelined with a stress fracture. But he showed here that he is right back to the sort of form that had seen him win over fences in France, and his bold jumping had his rivals in trouble a long way out. A fresh horse, he should be able to win again before long.
Zirkel, a 2m hurdles winner on soft ground at Warwick last season, turned in a respectable effort off top-weight on this chase debut. A mistake at the fourth last was his only real blemish, but he could make little impression on the winner in the straight. However, he never gave up and seemed to get the trip without a problem.
Different Class, who failed to cut the mustard over fences last season, was beaten well before the home turn here and was pulled up when all chance had gone.
