Diablo made all, ridden 2f out, ran on
Rhinestone Ruby always chasing winner, every chance over 2f out, soon ridden, kept on inside final furlong
Barafundle slowly into stride, held up in rear, pushed along and some headway 6f out, stayed on final 2f, never nearer
Brookview Lad prominent, ridden over 4f out, weakened 3f out
Smoke And Mirrors held up in mid-division, headway after 4f, weakened over 3f out
Qualin Des Brosses held up in touch, weakened over 6f out
Tot Hill towards rear, lost touch after 6f
Cloud Trail took keen hold, always towards rear, lost touch 7f out
Roseneath held up in mid-division, headway after 4f, weakened 6f out, soon lost touch
Grange Girl held up in touch, not much room after 5f, soon lost place, tailed off
Model Witness always in rear, pushed along after 5f, soon tailed off
The runner-up, half-sister to a winning chaser, chased the leader throughout and his rider was looking round for dangers turning for home, presumably feeling that he could pick off Diablo when he wanted. But Nigel Twiston-Davies runners can usually be relied on to gallop all the way to the line, and Diablo showed his mettle here. However, Rhinestone Ruby finished clear of the rest and he does not need to improve much on this effort to be winning.
Brookview Lad's effort petered out tamely in the straight, as did that of Smoke And Mirrors. The latter was having his first run since finishing second at Fakenham in January and, now fitted with a tongue tie, was beaten a long way out.
