Analyis of the race

A bold front-running performance by ex-pointer STRONG WELD saw him win most convincingly - though the outcome would probably have been different if I'm So Lucky had not departed five out. Strong Weld has been in excellent form in points this spring, and though now 11 he does not have that many miles on the clock and his sound jumping should ensure further success.

Seymour Weld, a winning plater over hurdles, had run a moderate fourth in a 2m6f novice chase here earlier this month and, though no match for the winner, turned in a respectable effort this time.

Ashwell Lad, who reportedly never travelled when pulled up at Huntingdon last time, was again never a factor here but plugged on for a well-beaten third when de Soto ran out of steamin the home straight.

I'm So Lucky, in good form over hurdles recently, jumped well on this chase debut and was travelling well, just a couple lengths down on Strong Weld, when he stumbled and came down three strides after jumping the fifth last.
