Bellaney Jewel chased leaders, hampered 14th, soon driven, effort next, 2nd 3 out, outpaced by leading pair next, finished 4th, placed 3rd

Fine By Me held up in rear, headway and not clear run on inner after 14th, ridden and beaten 3 out, finished 5th, placed 4th

Matt The Thrasher jumped tentatively in last place mostly, ridden and shortlived effort 3 out, finished 6th, placed 5th

Gallik Dawn raced wide in rear, headway after 14th, went 2nd and ridden before 2 out, 4 lengths down and held when rider took wrong course and jumped extra fence (water) near finish, passed post 2nd, disqualified

Wild Ground towards rear, effort 11th, ridden 14th, fading when blundered 3 out, jumped slowly next, tailed off when pulled up last

Ryders Storm chased leaders, 3rd and ridden 3 out, hit next, soon faded, pulled up last

The Bandit led 3rd until 4th and 6th until 9th, ridden next, weakened quickly 15th, last when blundered next and pulled up

Lord Of Illusion led 4th until 6th, not fluent 12th, weakened quickly 15th, blundered next, tailed off and pulled up last

Dickensbury Lad led until 4th and 9th until blundered 14th, weakened rapidly next, eased and pulled up 3 out

Sultan Fontenaille mistakes in rear, ridden 15th, no impression when pecked next, struggling when fell last

Plenty of incident in the closing stages of this marathon handicap chase with Ruby Walsh on Gallik Dawn, who would have finished second, taking the wrong course on the run-in having been steered wide virtually throughout, and crashing through rails around the newly sighted water jump, actually jumping the obstacle. He was subsequently disqualified but that will be of little interest to the connections of SURFACE TO AIR, who has improved markedly for his new trainer and still seems to be going theright way. He has the Midlands National at Uttoxeter as an option as long as the ground is fine.

Bellaney Jewel got further than this but she could have done with more testing ground. Fine By Me looks to be in the handicappers grip now.
