Councellor led, driven 2f out, stayed on well when strongly challenged throughout final furlong
Golden Desert chased leaders, went 2nd 3f out, driven and strong challenge from over 1f out but always just held by winner throughout final furlong
Blue Charm held up towards rear, headway and switched right inside final 2f, one pace over 1f out and never any chance with leading duo
Titan Triumph chased leaders, ridden over 2f out and no impression, one pace from over 1f out
Hessian in rear, ridden and some headway over 2f out, never reached leaders and soon beaten
Millfield in rear, ridden 3f out, stayed on from over 1f out and kept on inside final furlong, going on close home
Rydal Mount stumbled badly start, chased leaders 4f out, ridden 3f out, weakened 2f out
Coeur Courageux chased winner to 3f out, soon weakened
Apache Dawn always towards rear
COUNCELLOR races with his head high and does not look the most straightforward, but he dominated the race from the start under a good ride from Micky Fenton, and he always had just enough in reserve when Golden Desert threw down his challenge inside the last 2f. Stef Liddiard said he likes going downhill and he enjoys thesequirky tracks. This is his optimum trip, but his next start will be at Chepstow on Tuesday over 1m, a trip he has only won over on the all-weather.
Blue Charm and Tartan Triumph led the rest home, but Millfield ran as well as any of them, as he was poorly placed at the back of the field turning in and was going on still at the finish, having made his ground on the wide outside.
