Elhamri tracked leaders, led approaching final furlong, hard driven and held on well throughout final furlong
Safari Mischief chased leaders, ridden and effort when rider dropped reins briefly approaching final furlong, kept on strongly to press winner inside final furlong, no extra close home
Sweet Afton outpaced towards rear, driven along halfway, stayed on to close on leaders and edged left inside final furlong, never going pace to trouble leading duo
Woodcote pressed leaders, led inside final 2f, headed approaching final furlong, weakened close home
Golden Dixie in rear and outpaced, ridden halfway, ran on inside final furlong but never going pace to be competitive
The Jobber chased leaders, ridden over 2f out, weakened final furlong
Classic Encounter soon led, headed inside final 2f, hung right under pressure and not keen final furlong
Safari Mischief is a course specialist here at Goodwood and went down fighting. His rider dropped his left rein momentarily approaching the furlong marker, but it made no difference as he lost no momentum and the winner was nicely on top at the finish.
Woodcote, tried in cheekpieces, showed plenty of speed. He is hard to win with. Golden Dixie was never competitive and probably finds this downhill 5f on the sharp side for him nowadays. Jimmy Quinn reported Woodcote lost a shoe.
The Jobber had not run for nearly eight months so should come on for the run, but it was impossible to take any positives from the running of the disappointing Classic Encounter.
