Catholic Hill took keen hold, held up behind leaders, cruised through to lead just over 2f out, idled from over 1f out but still unchallenged
Colleoni held up towards rear, steady progress over 3f out, ridden to chase winner over 1f out, hung badly right and refused to exert himself
Stand Guard tracked leaders, progress over 3f out, ridden to challenge over 2f out, chased winner to over 1f out, one pace under pressure
Havanavich tracked leaders, closed over 3f out, led well over 2f out to just over 2f out, weakened
High Coincidence settled well in rear, some progress to reach back of main group well over 2f out, soon easily outpaced
Aston Boy rousted along early in midfield, in touch, not much room on inner well over 2f out, soon badly outpaced
Linby steadied start, held up in rear, progress 4f out, just in touch at back of leaders over 2f out, soon weakened
Champagne Dancer detached in last to halfway, never on terms, tailed off 3f out
Govenor Eliott stumbled after 1f, tracked leader, led briefly 3f out, soon weakened, tailed off
Ice Bellini always in rear, ridden and struggling soon after halfway, tailed off
Silver Willow always in rear, ridden and struggling before halfway, tailed off
King Canute fast away from wide draw, led and set good pace, headed and weakened rapidly 3f out, tailed off
Goldhill Fair took keen hold early, tracked leading pair to over 5f out, weakened, tailed off
The track had been harrowed a couple of times earlier in the day although the harrowing was apparently not deep, and the winning time suggested it was riding pretty normal.
A disappointment at Wolverhampton last time, CATHOLIC HILL was ridden more patiently here, and it seemed to suit him. He was forced to come wide round the bend into the straight but was just too good for this opposition and, despite idling a bit in front, he only had to be pushed out to score. He can cope with a step up in class.
First-time blinkers seemed to have a beneficial effect on Colleoni, but he hung in behind the eventual winner inside the final furlong and looks one to have serious reservations about.
Stand Guard ran a sound race on his return from a six-month break at Great Leighs last time, and this was another encouraging effort. He should be able to find a race of this nature in the coming weeks.
High Coincidence simply plugged on past a few beaten horses. Fibresand should suit him better, as his sire has a good record on that surface.
King Canute showed a lot of early dash to get over and lead from his outside draw. He set a decent gallop, but was there to be shot at early in the straight.
Governor Eliott, another wearing blinkers for the first time, was a bit too free through the early stages.
