MERCHANT OF DUBAI, trying Fibresand for the first time, was always travelling really well within himself and ran on strongly when kicked into a clear lead rounding the final bend. He stays further than this, so his apprentice did the right thing by putting his stamina to full use, and there was a lot to like about this effort as he had a useful-looking field well-strung out. He is progressing into a decent handicapper and proved well suited by this galloping course.
Mezzanisi did not totally convince with his attitude in the straight, although that might be a little harsh as he ran into a really progressive type, and he still finished clear of the remainder. He is holding his form well.
Reclamation ran below form on her first start on Fibresand, but there didn't seem to be too many excuses.
Taikoo landed his maiden at this course, so the surface was not problem, and he came into this in form having won over this trip on soft ground at Goodwood last time, but he was well beaten in first-time cheekpieces.
Even more disappointing was Sweet Lightning. His stable have been in great form, but he failed to run a race and may have been unsuited by the surface.
