Sequillo tracked leading trio, ridden over 2f out, got through to challenge over 1f out, led inside final furlong, driven out
Hurakan led at moderate pace, driven and upped tempo over 2f out, kept on against near side rail but headed inside final furlong, held after
Brazilian Art tracked leader, ridden to challenge over 2f out, upsides over 1f out, not quicken final furlong
Lady Rusty took keen hold early and held up in 5th, dropped to last 2f out but close up, effort on outer over 1f out but hanging left, no impression
Reaction tracked leading trio, effort to challenge 2f out, weakened just over 1f out
Hambledon Hill held up in 6th, effort on outer over 2f out, tried to challenge well over 1f out, weakened soon after
Sultans Way held up in last, awkward bend 6f out to over 4f out and detached, progress on wide outside over 2f out, in touch over 1f out, weakened
SEQUILLO had shaped better than the bare form of his fourth behind Hurakan at Lingfield 24 days previously and, racing on 6lb better terms with that rival, opened his account at the fourth attempt. He acted well on the quick ground and looked better the further he went, so looks a potentially decent middle-distance prospect for next year.
Hurakan had proved most game in winning narrowly on Polytrack last time and, under a positive ride, did not go down without a fight against the stands' rail on this nursery bow. He is developing into a very likeable sort and is another who will enjoy stepping up in distance next term.
There was a bit of a gap back to Goodwood maiden winner Lady Rusty, who was another who had her chance over the longer trip yet rather hung fire when put under maximum pressure. This was the fastest surface she had encountered to date and a move back to easier ground can see her in a better light.
