SUPER FOURTEEN had run well off a mark of 64 on his previous start and seemed to have a relatively straightforward task. He looked like he might score comfortably having taken control in the last 2f but idled a bit and just hung on in the closing stages. His mark should not be affected by this win and he should remain competitive in nurseries, but may find it hard to cope with less exposed and more progressive rivals.
Parc Des Princes, a US-bred colt from the family of the stable's smart performer Vanderlin, was well backed on his debut but blew his chance at the start. It was almost a similar story here but he knuckled down really well from an unpromising position and just failed to reel in the leader. This represents a significant step forward and he should be able to win a similar event, particularly on a more galloping track.
The newcomer Molnaya drifted markedly, looked a bit shell-shocked on the downhill run and never got into contention.
Captain Kallis was reported to have run too free and didn't handle the track.
Chicory Cottage was reported to have run too free.
Definite Honey was reported to have been unsuited by the track.
