Home-bred gelding Grey Rhythm is a late developer, but is very much improving on this evidence and should handle an extra furlong without too much difficulty. He raced out the back early before closing right up to challenge inside the final half furlong. He just failed on this occasion but looks progressive enough to win a race.
La Sylvia ran perfectly respectably on her seasonal debut, but it was yet another frustrating placed effort. She broke smartly and showed her customary early speed before coming under pressure and fading inside the last half-furlong. She's a very speedy filly, but looks one who'll have her best chance of winning over a very fast five furlongs as she just doesn't seem to get home on a track such as this.
Toberanthawn looks to have retained a similar level of ability as at the end of last season, but this trip is probably a furlong short of his best. Always in the leading group, he couldn't quite get close enough to challenge and kept on at one pace.
Whispering Wind ran an extremely eyecatching race under an inexperienced rider. Her first run under Flat rules, she raced a long way off the pace and under a very tender ride, kept on through the field to be nearest at the finish. Theperformance of the horse attracted the attention of the stewards. Whereas the explanation of trainer Joanna Morgan's representative was noted, rider Ronan Keogh was found to be in breach of rule 212, pertaining to a rider making every effort to achieve the best possible placing for his mount, and he was hit with a ten-day suspension.
Circle Dance kept on under hands and heels, ahead of Ability N Delivery, who has failed to progress from his very promising Curragh debut last month. [JO'H]
