Epic Odyssey showed a nice bit of improvement from his seasonal bow at Dundalk and shouldn't take long to win a handicap on this evidence. Showing plenty of early speed, he was able to quicken it up at halfway and once the winnerwent past he showed a good attitude and battled back well. He just couldn't match the winner in terms of ability but ran his best race to date.
Fourpenny Lane showed that she retains all of her ability from last season and there should be more to come. Showing enough early dash and tracking the leaders on the inner, she couldn't quite get close enough to challenge but kept on well under hands and heels.
The first four finished some way clear of the remainder, headed by recent Limerickmaiden winner Dubburg. He was close up until he was outpaced inside the final furlong and a half, and much the same can be said about Fadhb Ar Bith. He was hard to assess coming into this race and having shown plenty of early speed, he too was a spent force inside the final furlong or so.
A couple of disappointing displays were evident from Manhattan Beach, who faded from the front rank from halfway and may not have been suited by the drying ground, and Soap Wars, who was hardly ever out of last place. [JO'H]
