Analyis of the race
Despite going off an uneasy favourite, DESERT BEN obliged after appearing to struggle to go with the pacesetters in the early stages. Having finished fifth on his seasonal debut over the minimum trip at Tipperary on much softer ground, the five-year-old turned that form around with the third placed horse from that day Faynita and possibly looks one who will be better over further.
The winner had always to be kept up to his work from early on by Declan McDonagh and having hit the front over 1f out,he had be kept up to his job to hold off the late charge of Nanita Bonita.
Like Desert Ben, the runner-up was also struggling in the early part of the race with the fast pace but she came with her challenge up the middle of the pack under Amy Parsons and was gaining on the winner all the way to the line. This was by far Nanita Bonita's best display on what was her fourth start but just her second on turf.
Usual front-runner Doorock was always prominent after being quickly into stride but he was overhauled by the late finishers and possibly looks better suited to the minimum trip, while Ideal Appeal was closest at the finish on her third start in as many weeks. [RC]
