It appeared as though the race favourite Serpentaria was going to continue Willie Mullins' super festival, having travelled ominously well for the majority of the race, but she was unable to withstand the late challenge of OSCAR REBEL.
Settled in mid-division, Oscar Rebel was under pressure well before the turn into the straight in fourth place but having soon moved into third, she continued to respond to her rider's antics and sneaked up the inside rail to wrestle victory from Serpentaria following a good jump at the last flight.
A winner of a similar contest at Fairyhouse's Easter festival, Oscar Rebel showed her versatility in dropping back to this 2m2f trip from 2m4f and ran out a very comfortable winner. She also showed no obvious discomfort for the better ground conditions, which was of some surprise to her trainer. She will now be given a break before following the mares hurdle next season.
Moskova travelled well for a long way having been given a prominent ride but she couldn't go with the first two after turning in before staying on again close home.
The early pacesetter My Valley returned to near her best form with a respectable fourth ahead of Brotenstown, who continued her fine form of late following two previous wins on the trot. The unlucky horse was Give It Time, who was still travelling well when clipping heels with the race leaders after jumping the second last and after unshipping his jockey.
*Brave Betsy was reported to be showing signs of being in season post race by her trainer. [JOH]
