FREDS BENEFIT made a bad early mistake, got himself quite some way behind at halfway and beyond, but began to stay on as the horses in front of him began to falter from about three out. In the end, his undoubted stamina and the wanderings of the eventual runner-up at the final fence allowed him to come through for an unlikely success. It's the last we shall see of him this season and what trip is deemed to be his best next season time will tell.
Lukie Victor should be able to make his mark in handicap chase company next season, but today is one that probably got away. Having come through travelling well at the third last, he soon went on but he was allowed to run down the final fence and jumped it well out to the left which cost him valuable momentum. The fact the he was only beaten a length and a half tells its own story.
The unluckliest horse in the race was third placed Rien A Perdre. He was always prominent, but lost ground at nearly every fence by jumping out to his left, and a violent jump in that direction at the third last almost saw him running off the track. In the end, to be only beaten six lengths was quite an effort, as he must have lost a few multiples of that with hiswanderings.
Outlaw Princess has shown in the past that she needs to dominate in order to be seen at her best. She couldn't do that today, was under pressure and wasn't going to win from about the fourth last fence.
Keepthedreamalive took them along at a really good clip until he was headed by the eventual runner-up and was beaten from the third last.
Dontwakedtrainer was in touch when falling four out, while the race changed in a major way when favourite Lenrey fell at the second fence.[JOH]
