"He just about got away with it," said winning trainer Arthur Moore.
To be fair, the horse didn't stay on his sole try over three miles at Leopardstown in January, so this trip was always likely to be more suitable and the overnight rain proved to be a very important addition. Held up out the back by Philip Carberry, he made gradual progress over the final mile, andpossibly the slight mistake he made at the second last helped him in the end, as he didn't get to the front too soon. He challenged between horses after the last and got up close home. He's a decent handicap chaser, but not helped by the impression that he just doesn't get three miles, at least at the present time.
Having been prominent the whole way, Bishop's Bridge jumped to the front at the third last and attempted to run the finish out of his rivals. He almost did but was worn down on the line. He's a bold jumping type that has enough ability to win a good handicap on this evidence.
Again, the cupboard was found to be quite bare with Justpourit. Paddy Flood got a good tune out of him as he raced and jumped well in mid-division, but whenhe came there to throw down his challenge between the final two fences he looked a very likely winner, but not for the first time he failed to find as much as he threatened to.
Plenty of use was made of The Joker. He jumped well from the front and opened up a bit of a gap down the back straight but once the field came back to him he came under pressure and could only plug at one pace.
Carrigeen Kalmia could never get involved and just kept on past beaten horses, while both Black Hills and front-running Oedipe weakened from the third last, the latter having made a bad mistake at that fence.[JOH]
