STRAVAIGIN had shown her best form over 2m4f previously, but she proved her stamina here, as after travelling well she stayed on well to score driven out. A former eventer, she is currently rated 10lb lower over fences than hurdles, and as this was only her fifth race over fences, she may improve a little more.
Garleton was 6lb out of the handicap, but after finishing third in a novice chase last week at Kelso, he was 19lb better in here than he will be in future handicaps. He ran well enough, travelling well and sticking on, but as he was only second, he will clearly find life tough when his new mark kicks in at the weekend.
In the end these three finished clear of Willing Weasel, who was held up and travelled well but was beaten going to the last, which he hit pretty hard. He has run creditably over 3m in the past, but left the impression he might be worth a try at 2m4f.
