Pursuit Of Purpose always in rear
LASSARINA, one of four newcomers in the field, was by no means the best away but she travelled powerfully off the pace and once switched to make her effort closest to the stands' rail, saw her race out in grand style. Although she is out of a half-sister to the top-class sprinter Continent, the way she won this suggests she has inherited plenty of stamina from her sire. She is likely to have one more run this term and she should come on for this, so she looks well worth a try in something rather better.
Super Sleuth, an eye-catcher on her Newmarket debut, stepped up from that and had every chance. A Fillies' Mile entry, she gave the impression that she is still far from the finished article so a maiden should be a formality.Al Sabaheya, easy winner of a Brighton maiden auction event on her debut that has produced several placed horses since but no winners, proved popular in the market. Tracking the pace throughout, she made her effort on the far side of the leader while the first two challenged on the opposite side, but she still kept on well enough.
Feeling Fab, the most experienced in the field and an easy winner on Polytrack the previousweek, was sent straight to the front and set a decent gallop. She looked to have all her rivals in trouble passing the 2f pole, but she started to tire inside the last furlong and was swamped on either side in the last 100 yards.
Capitelli, who acquitted herself very well when runner-up on her Newmarket debut, was close enough for most of the way but couldn't pick up sufficiently when asked and perhaps she needs better ground.
Phillipina, whose winning dam is a half-sister to Cesare and Nowhere To Exit, proved very weak in the market but didn't run badly. She was still in the mix entering the last furlong before tiring and starting to hang away to the far side, but Ryan Moore wasn't at all hard on her by then. She is bred to stay much further than this and looks one for next year.
Suba, who was a fine third in a maiden here on her debut from which four of her rivals went on to win their next starts, is bred to have appreciated this extra furlong so the way she faded late on was very disappointing. Something must have been amiss.
The winner's stable-companion Lady Drac never figured on this debut, while Mejala was another to disappoint in view of her promising debut. She wasn't going well from a long way out and is surely better than this.
Pursuit Of Purpose was always at the back after missing the break, but this half-sister to three winners including one over hurdles is probably one for middle-distance handicaps in due course.
