Sphinx took keen hold, held up, smooth headway 5f out, led on bit over 2f out, shaken up and drew clear over 1f out
Dr Sharp led to over 2f out, kept on, no chance with winner
Los Nadis took keen hold early, tracked leaders, went second over 5f out, effort over 3f out, weakened 2f out
Act Sirius prominent until ridden and weakened from over 5f out
Propinquity took keen hold, held up, headway over 5f out, weakened over 4f out
Stravonian chased leader to over 5f out, soon weakened
Jardines Bazaar held up, driven over 6f out, soon struggling
The result looked in nodoubt over two furlongs out as SPHINX absolutely bolted up, cantering all over Dr Sharp up the straight before drawing clear with remarkable ease in the final furlong and a half. A confirmed mud-lover, he is a very well handicapped horse nowadays having dropped down to a mark of 78 from 90, and this opened up perfectly for him.
