MAGIC CAT, the least-exposed runner in the field, had impressed when scoring at Ripon last time, proving in the process that he handled easy ground, and he stepped up another notch here to score decisively.
He picked up in impressive fashion once switched out to mount his challenge and he was always holding the runner-up in the closing stages, so although Total Gallery was unlucky in-running,he probably wasn't an unlucky loser.
The winner might now have the Cornwallis Stakes on his agenda, although connections have yet to decide whether to go there or call it a day for the season as they are sure he is a horse who will make a very decent three-year-old.
Salsa Star, who had quite a lot to find on what she had shown previously, was buffeted around a bit in the pack as she tried to progress and she kept on well for a clear third. This was easily her best effort despite this being the softest ground she has encountered so far.
Anglezarke was the big disappointment but she had a very tough task from stall 1 and she could simply never get into it in the second half of the contest.
