Just like yesterday, a time that suggests conditions are no where near as testing on the straight course as on the round course, and that will probably have helped HOTHAM who hasn't handledtesting ground on occasions in the past, indeed all three of his wins have had the word firm in the going description.
Always travelling well close to the pace, he pounced inside the final furlong to score pretty decisively in the end and scoring for the first time since wining in this month a year ago. Despite his unappealing form figures he came into this in good form having gone down by just a length and a half at Doncaster last week despite meeting trouble in running. He now heads back to Pontefract for the 5f handicap he won last year.
The Bear kept on for third, and although he did clearly gain an advantage at the start, he set a strong pace and this was a creditable run.
Highland Warrior compromised his chance to a degree by being sluggish from the stalls but he kept on wellwithout ever being able to land a blow while Charles Parnell also ran with a deal of credit back down in trip.
The hard-luck story of the race was Killer Class who was still hard on the bridle behind a wall of horses up the rail and she never got a clear run at any stage.
Prince Namid was bitterly disappointing but he was beaten so far out that something must have been amiss and this effort should be overlooked.
