FATHSTA was apparently one of the most exposed in the line-up after 22 previous outings but he had looked to have improved this spring, notably a good second from a wide draw over 6f at Chester the previous week, and confirmed himself still on the upgrade with a very useful effort over this longer trip. He could be seen travelling best from some way out, went on over 1f out and immediately found extra when pressed to score with plenty to spare. He appears better suited by 7f than 6f and looks well worth another try at 1m, so the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot is the obvious target for him.
But Generous Thought could well be lying in wait there and would have a chance of turning the tables given the likely swing in the weights as he was held up and given plentyto do here and had to make his ground on the wide outside, whereas the winner was on the inside. He was never going quite as well as that rival, who found extra when he got close to him over a furlong out, but he did well to get so close as he did from some way back, beat the rest well enough and confirmed the impression from his Newbury reappearance that he is a fast-improving three-year-old who has a big handicap in him.
Swift Gift had been just 3/4l behind the third at Newmarket ten days previously and confirmed that was decent form, always to the fore here, and is yet another who is progressing with racing.
Wigram's Turn kept on for a highly creditable fifth, showing that his recent improved all-weather efforts did not flatter him, ahead of Tanweer, who was one of the least experienced in the line-up and was having his first run for nearly eight months after being gelded in the close season - he ran wellbut looks to start life in handicaps on a stiffish mark.
Dubai Dynamo is another who will do well to defy the handicapper but Seasider deserves credit, having forced a decent pace to over a furlong out on just his third appearance - this one-time 2,000 Guineas entry is well worth another chance. [DC]
