According to the market this was all about the odds-on COOL ART, who had made his debut at Newmarket on 1,000 Guineas day and shown promise before just flattening out. No doubt, the experience did him good as connections decided to bowl along from the gate and he was never in trouble in landing the odds. He used his lovely, long stride to good effect and saw out every yard of the 6f without a problem. Trainer Simon Callaghan wasn't about to commit him to any fancy targets but indicated Cool Art is an above-average type who should go on and make his presence felt in tougher engagements.
Yokozuna, comparatively cheaply bought for 12,500gns, ran a most eye-catching debut as he thundered home from out the back to take second. Trainer Ed Dunlop often leaves a bit to work on with his debutants and the Efisio colt is sure to benefit from this experience.
May foal Olaudah Equiano made a fair debut and this trip looked as sharp ashe wants. He has a nice outlook and is another who can be expected to build on this.
Kings Troop was the first two-year-old runner in 2008 from Henry Cecil's powerful yard. He missed the break and then appeared to hate the ground, changing his legs on more than one occasion. He is likely to know a lot more next time and will probably prove far better than this.
