Magical Speedfit tracked leaders on outside, strong run to lead inside final furlong, won going away
Ben chased leader, ridden to chase winner inside final furlong, no extra
Only In Jest broke well, led until weakened, headed and lost 2nd inside final furlong
Wynberg slowly into stride, hung left from halfway, never near to challenge
Swindon Town Flyer slowly into stride, lost all chance when hampered on inside halfway
Baytown Blaze raced on outside, outpaced over 2f out
Sandy Par always outpaced
In a race in which Only In Jest burst out of stall 1 and soon had a 5l lead, Moore kept hold of him down the hill, confident the leader would come back, and then drove him to the front on the outer inside the final furlong for a clear-cut win.
Although previously frustrating, this was his first run in a handicap. George Margarson blamed himself for running him on the wrong ground at Folkestone and admitted the blinkers next time were a mistake borne of frustration.
Ben raced closest to the winner, but just as he was getting upsides the leader the winner swept by.
Wynberg was seeking a four-timer, but he was up another 6lb here (21lb higher than when his spree began) and had no previous form on turf, having beaten a total of only four horses in four previous efforts on it. He did not look at all happy on the track and was inclined to keep lugging in towards the inside rail.
Swindon Town Flyer isn't the most straightforward and he might have been flattered by his Folkestone claiming win.
Baytown Blaze was soon being chased along on the outer and never looked like getting on terms.Chris Catlin reported that Baytown Blaze was unsuited by the ground.
