Western Roots slowly into stride, soon chasing leader clear of remainder, led over 6f out, made rest, 6 lengths clear 3f out, easily
Given A Choice raced in midfield well off the pace, went 3rd over 5f out, ridden to chase winner over 2f out, no impression
Moayed held up well behind, headway over 4f out, went modest 3rd over 1f out, never near leaders
Little Jimbob taken down early, led until over 6f out, chased winner after, ridden over 3f out, soon weakened
Steely Dan always well behind, no chance last 3f, tailed off
Pepito Collonges chased clear leading pair until over 5f out, well behind and ridden over 4f out, tailed off
Donatessa reared as stalls opened, virtually refused to race, pulled up
There was a wide variance of official ratings and the unchallenged success of WESTERN ROOTS suggests most of his rivals are seriously over-rated in their dotage, although the winner was put in on a realistic mark with his capable young rider taking off a valuable 7lb to make him competitive but not looking like a runaway scorer.
Little Jimbob tried to go with Western Roots early but weakened before the home bend to leave his rival to come home in splendid isolation through the final 3f.
Given A Choice sat well off the sound pace and momentarily looked like taking a hand on the bend 3f out, but his head went back and he did not give chase up the straight despite the strongest persuasion from above. He looks plenty high enough in the ratings on this showing.
Moayed plodded on past tired rivals without threatening to take a hand and again did not appear to want this longer trip.
