Johnny Murtagh got it right as to which of the Ballydoyle trio he would partner and Moonstone is a deeply promising individual. Making her debut, the daughter of Dalakhani was held up off the pace, but began to improve inside the last three furlongs and stayed on nicely under an educational ride. She holds entries in the English and Irish Oaks and can only improve.
Her stablemate William Hogarth ran his best race and there should be a lot better to come from him. Chasing the lead for the first mile, he led early in the straight but had no response when the winner came to challenge him.
Bashkirov led early and stretched into a lead of six to eight lengths inside the final half-mile, but he had no more to offer when headed over a furlong and a half out. There should be improvement to come from him.
Others who should be capable of better are Aather, who was unable to improve inside the last half-mile but showed ability, and Galiyan, who chased the leader from before the straight but ran a bit green and tired close home. [JOH]
