A third consecutive handicap win for the diminutive LUXIE following victories over slightly shorter trips at Cork and Tipperary. Raised 5lb for her first win, she was up another 7lb here and what she lacks in size she makes up for with courage. She began her move on the outside over three furlongs out and swept to the front well over a furlong out, from where she kept on well to hold a pair of fast finishers. “She goes on any ground and has a tremendous will to win,” trainer Dermot Weld said of the winner, who stands less than 15 hands. She is heading for a break.

Castle Bar Sling, contesting his first handicap on his seasonal debut, made headway from two furlongs out and ran on well for pressure in the closing stages.

Corana, whose best previous effort was a second in a 7f maiden at Dundalk in November, was another having her first run of the season. Towards the back of the field into the straight, she was soon switched right and finished well.

Gracious Girl, placed on her two previous attempts this year, was behind early on but made headway totrack the leaders early in the straight. She could never quite get on terms but kept on.

Lethal Weapon, making his handicap debut after two runs on the all-weather at Dundalk and another undistinguished one at Limerick, caught the eye. One of the backmarkers early on, he made headway to chase the leaders from two furlongs out and, on this evidence, he should be capable of winning a handicap.

Blue Law, Darraghs Day and Rochester Falls were badly hampered when Cullenstownstrand ducked after going a furlong. [TOH]
