He doesn't look the most straightforward ride, but when asked to go about his business he raised his game enough to prevail in this moderate contest. Running off 86 in his first nursery, he raced off just 59 here after losing his way but he appreciated this longer journey and an extra furlong or even two shouldn't inconvenience him on this evidence.
LilyLavender raced prominently and ran creditably under her 7lb claiming rider. She stepped up on her seasonal debut effort and might be capable of more to come over further given she won her only race over 1m2f at Clonmel almost two years ago.
DesertMirage was another to improve on a couple of previous runs to snatch third at the expense of Striking Force, who didn't enjoy the clearest of passages at a crucial stage. He was squeezed for the room when delivering his challenge and might have finished closer although having proved a beaten favourite at Dundalk on a couple of occasions he might not be the most reliable customer.
Dafaroun, successful in four races at sprint distances, failed to build on his encouraging Curragh debut effort under this big weight, and surprise Dundalk winner Rokwith was another to disappoint.
Amongst Amigos raced up front for a time but this ground was dryer than he would want judged on his best form going back. [BF]
