Lime Tree Valley led, headed after 1 1/2f, disputed entering straight, ridden in 4th 1 1/2f out, soon weakened
Bravely Fought was settled in mid-division and began to run on from a furlong and a half out. He had every chance a furlong out, but the winner just seemed to have a more willing attitude which ultimately made the difference. That’s not to say there aren’t handicaps to be won with the runner-up.
Top-weight Bunsen Burner was keen enough early on and went to the front after a couple of furlongs. He was headed a furlong and a half out and those early exertions didn’t help him in the closing stages as he could find no extra inside the final furlong. It was a fair effort on paper, but he’s capable of better.
Mary Josephine has plenty of experience on this surface and probably ran more or less to her mark. Racing off the pace, she could never get close enough to mount a challenge and just kept on at one pace inside the final furlong.
Joint-favourite Leandros ran a good bit short of his best. Off the pace most of the way, he was pulled towards the centre of the track to try to challenge early in the straight but never looked like getting close enough.
