The Curragh trainer had stressed beforehand it was ‘a toss of a coin' which filly stable jockey Mick Kinane elected to ride and so it proved. In this case, he picked the wrong one but full marks to Fran Berry for forcing the 103-rated Invincible Spirit filly up to record her third career win.
The good pace helped her settle and she came home best of all in this rain softened ground. Her trainer said afterwards she might well run over seven furlongs in a fillies race next.
The easy to back Eastern Romance, a dual winner over the minimum trip, had finished second over this trip in Italy last time. She took up the running at the distance and set sail for home until the winner snatched the verdict where it mattered. She looks sure to pay her way on her travels especially in her own age group after again showing plenty of speed.
Cartimandua was well-backed to maintain her winning thread after three consecutive wins over this trip after running down the field in last season's 1,000 Guineas. She held every chance turning for home but couldn't raise her game enough with this rain-softened ground probably going against her.
Campfire Glow was tackling this journey for just the second time and while the ground should have been no problem this shorter journey probably was for last season's Group Debutante winner.
Forthefirsttime missed the kick before making some late headway. Her trainer reckoned she was a bit rusty for her first run back and so last season's Flame Of Tara Stakes winner looks another who should benefit from this experience.
My Girl Sophie was making a quick reappearance following her comfortable victory over Dimenticata over a furlong longer. She tried to make the running but found the going tough when challenged in the straight.
Last season's Stewards Cup fourth That's Hot probably needed this, her first run since last September, while Emily Blake failed to build on her excellent Athasi Stakes run even though the ground had come in her favour. She might have found things happened a bit too quick for her over this shorter journey.
Manzila had solid credentials on her best form but the change in the ground after rain during the evening did her prospects no favours when asked a question rounding the home turn.
