This proved fairly straightforward for SABANA PERDIDA, who had finished third in the WIndsor Forest at Royal Ascot for connections last year before going onto land a Group 3 at Longchamp in September and gave the impression she could build on that again this season. She was held up in touch a little wide of the leaders and made good headway from over a furlong out and only had to be pushed out once hitting the front inside the final furlong. She heads back to Royal Ascot next month and could well make a similarly bold showing.

The other Gallic raider Verba had made a winning reappearance at Maisons-Lafitte in April and ran well on the fastest ground she has encountered in her short career. She broke smartly and tacked over to lead on the stands' rail and, although headed over a furlong out, kept on well in the closing stages to gain the second spot. She can find further improvement with experience and a race of this nature should be well within her grasp in due course.

Kylayne had made the running when runner-up to Infallible in the Nell Gwyn on her reappearance and was ridden with slightly more restraint on this occasion but put in another solid effort. Her jockey was content to track the leader until going on over a furlong out and she ran on well enough but gave the impression that a return to six furlongs could well see her in an even better light.

Once Upon A Grace was held up in the early stages and made her progress over a furlong out but hung left in the closing stages and gave the impression that this ground was plenty fast enough for her. She certainly has plenty of ability and her trainer will no doubt tap into that during the course of the season.

Steam Cuisine was another for whom thequest for more black type appeared the mission and ran well enough under the circumstances and she can find more races at the right level this season. (TE)
