Amanjena took keen hold early, tracked winner until ridden 2f out, soon weakened
MIRACLE SEEKER came here a maiden, but she has always been well regarded and could be excused her Newbury reappearance as the ground was too holding for her. There was a worry that the going here might be too quick for her, but she handled it well under a really well executed front-running ride. Adam Kirby dictated the pace throughout here and having grabbed the lead he slowed things down. They all seemed to come down the steep hill towards the straight a little gingerly, but Miracle Seeker had a handy two-length lead and Kirby pressed on as soon as they straightened up. The filly had them all in trouble two furlongs out, and although Look Here was closing all the while she was never getting there. Miracle Seeker is now generally a 33-1 chance for Epsom (40-1 with Ladbrokes) and that looks about right.
Look Here, representing the connections of last year's winner Kayah, didn't enjoy the run of the race and is better than the bare form. She looked short of room leaving the stalls and raced at the back of the field, then having been poised on the outside rounding the home turn she did not take it well and dropped back to last. She ended up making her effort up the far rail, and although she made relentless headway, taking second approaching the final furlong and pulling clear of the rest, she was never quite getting there.
The first two were clear of Presbyterian Nun, who was a springer in the market despite having been soundly beaten in handicaps on her last two starts. She returned to form in third, without necessarily looking any better than the 85-rated handicapper she looked before.
Ice Queen wasn't well away and, having been shuffled back to last again starting down the hill, she was soon under pressure in the straight. Her recent win was in a Cork maiden, and although it was an impressive one she does not look an Oaks filly.
Classic Remark, a half-sister to this race's 2005 winner Cassydora, came here with just a Newbury maiden fourth to her name and she struggled in this better grade on faster ground.
Amanjena was also taking a massive step up in class, but having run away with a Kempton handicap off only 74 she came here the race's highest-rated runner on 92.She tracked the leader but took quite a keen hold and weakened 2f out. (GD)
