Baharah held up, took closer order 4f out, ridden and switched right over 1f out, quickened up well to lead inside final furlong, ran on
Kasumi tracked leaders, ridden to lead over 1f out, headed inside final furlong, not pace of winner
Fragrancy tracked leader, led 2f out, soon ridden and headed, remained pressing leader, no extra final 100yds
Valrhona tracked leaders, not clear run briefly over 2f out, soon ridden, kept on final 100yds
Jamboretta held up, close enough 2f out, soon ridden, not pace to challenge
Nolas Lolly held up 5th, close enough 2f out, soon ridden, not pace to challenge
Medicea Sidera led, ridden and headed 2f out, weakened 1f out
It was also spoilt by a lack of pace, leading to a sprint in the second half of the race which did not suit some of these taking fillies, although the time suggests otherwise.
BAHARAH had the class to run a good third over 6f to Greenham winner Paco Boy last year in a 2-3yo contest, giving him 9lb. She sat well enough back in the pack given the pace but had too much pace and class for her rivals despite her big weight. She was well on top in the final 100yds, just pushed out and connections are aiming her for the G2 Windsor Forest rather than the Sandringham in the belief her rating will take her into that sphere.
Kasumi sat wide in the pack close up in fourth and picked up well in the sprint on this seasonal return against a racefitter rival, who had been to Dubai. As such she deserves plenty of credit and can build on thissolid effort. She remains progressive but much will depend how the handicapper reacts to her proximity to a class act.
Valrhona travelled well against the stands' rail but was outpaced in the sprint, not surprisingly for a filly dropping back sharply in trip. She showed much more than on her comeback and looks on her way back to her progressive all-weather win.
Jamboretta was most disappointing. She went to post keenly and was buried at the back of the pack off the pace. She switched wider to move up but was tightened up and found little to threaten the leaders before fading in the final 100yds.
Nolas Lolly deserves another chance as she was not seen to best effect under these conditions and race tactics, and she has been off a long time, not having raced after August in France last year before joining her new trainer. Nolas Lolly was reported unsuited to the ground.[BJ]
