Man Of Gwent midfield, switched right and headway over 2f out, soon ridden and chased leaders, one pace inside final furlong
Basalt midfield, effort when forced wide on bend over 1f out, no further progress final furlong
Lucayan Dancer in touch, ridden over 2f out, no impression when not much room and hampered over 1f out, no danger after
New Star chased leaders, ridden and not quicken over 2f out, weakened 1f out
Stretton held up, niggled along over 4f out, never on terms
Prince Samos slowly into stride, struggling 4f out, always behind
Bajan Parkes led, headed well over 7f out, ridden over 3f out, weakened over 2f out, eased over 1f out
Stellino prominent, ridden over 4f out, weakened 3f out, eased over 1f out
Cruise Director, who has gone three years without a win, would not have been suited by the drying ground. He is something of a regular in this race, in which he has gone well before, and he is on an attractive mark.
There was a gap back to the others, who were led home by Inspirina. The race has been his target for a long time and there could be more to come from him over the next few months. Stretton, winner of this race for the last two years, was never able to get in a positionto mount a challenge.
