The Last Drop chased leader, ridden 3f out, weakened over 2f out

Not the strongest renewal of this Group 3 and contested by horses who had largely come up short when tried at this level. To put MACARTHUR in that company is perhaps a bit unfair, though, as he had a luckless campaign as a three-year-old, which culminated in a day to forget in the St Leger, while the bottomless ground would not have been in his favour on his return in Ireland. The money beforehand suggested he was expected to go well, and he most certainly won in the style of a performer who is stillgoing places. He received quotes of 12-1 for the Gold Cup, but his rider reported that he has plenty of speed and as a brother to Motivator, a drop back to 1m4f may not be out of the question. He has big entries, but with that in mind and his trainer's strength in the staying division, the Coronation Cup or the Hardwicke Stakes could be more likely targets.

Supersonic Dave was another who had a far from ideal campaign last season. Staying looks to be his game, and he could be a force to reckon with over further in time.

This was a cracking effort from Carte Diamond. His problems have been well documented and his connections were delighted with what they saw. This was never going to be his ideal track and he goes to the more suitable Newcastle for the Northumberland Plate in which he will join stablemate Tilt, who finished third in Wednesday's Chester Cup.

Numide kept on in the closing stages. He shaped as if a lot further would be to his liking, and he could well be worth a go over 2m if connections decide to continue on the Flat with him.

Steppe Dancer raced keenly early on. His size would not be suited to this track and he was tiring when he lugged towards the rails late on, badly hampering and ending any chance Raincoat had in the process.
