Extraterrestrial midfield, not clear run over 2f out, ridden when not clear run again and plenty to do over 1f out, strong run final furlong, gaining towards finish, just failed
Dream Lodge in touch, pushed along over 3f out, ridden and headway over 1f out, ran on towards finish
Joseph Henry chased leaders, ridden to challenge over 1f out, no extra final strides
The Kiddykid chased leaders, ridden to challenge over 1f out, not clear run and switched left inside final furlong, not quicken towards finish
Regal Parade towards rear, headway over 3f out, ridden on outside to press leaders 2f out, stayed on same pace towards finish
Heywood in touch, ridden and hung left from over 1f out, soon weakened
Dhaular Dhar raced keenly, held up, hampered over 4f out, ridden and wanted to lugg left when beaten over 1f out
Russki in rear, soon niggled along, never on terms
Plum Pudding chased leader until pushed along and weakened over 1f out
Gallantry started slowly, always behind
CELTIC SULTAN had been going well at the backend of last season and connections hoped he would be better with another winter under his belt. That is certainly the case on this evidence, as the confirmed front-runner looked in control after he was allowed to lead. Although those horses who finished nearest to him were coming from all sides, he had a little in reserve and rallied again near the line. Quick underfoot conditions suit him, and he could move into slightly better company.
Extraterrestrial had a 6lb penalty for his length-and-a-half victory over Regal Parade six days earlier. As was the case on that occasion, he was ridden patiently before making good headway in the final three furlongs. His rider had to take a pull before he made his move, but that had little impact on the outcome.
The Kiddykid has gone well around here. He did not get the most trouble-free path on this occasion, however, and lost a little momentumwhen switched wide at the top of the straight before he ducked back in behind the winner late on. That may well have cost him a place or two.
Joseph Henry continues in good heart. He is due to go up 4lb, though, and could find things tough, as that is 13lb higher than his latest handicap win.
Regal Parade made headway three furlongs out but never looked like getting to the front. There was a gap back to the others, including last year's winner Dhaular Dhar, who never picked up off a mark 2lb lower than 12 months earlier.
*Daniel Tudhope, the rider of Dhaular Dhar, reported that the horse suffered interference in running.
*The representative of David Simcock, the trainer of Russki, reported that the colt had been struck into.
