Leyte Gulf ran well on his first attempt on the surface and moved right into contention after the turn from home. He kept on well enough and there will a little race like this for him.
Cavallini had run well over course and distance and week ago when beaten by Luca Cumani-trained Boz but didn't have the same zip on his return. He was held up and made headway from four furlongs out but he came under pressure to do so and, although keeping on, hung left in the closing stages. He goes up 2lb in the future and could find life harder on his return.
Richard Thomas reported that Pearl lost her near-fore shoe, and Pat Cosgrave reported that Strong Survivor was never travelling.
