Things had not gone SAVARAIN'S way since his promising debut fourth in the hot Newmarket maiden won by Twice Over last year, but he is held in quite high regard and had come on for his reappearance, when he evidently was not fit enough. Held up in a race not run to suit, he was clearly travelling strongly allthe way up the straight, and when he was sent after favourite Sortita, he quickened up and was always going to get the better of her. Although the second was closing him down at the finish, he held on well, and he looks one to keep on the right side of when he goes into handicaps, and connections feel he will be seen to much better advantage off a stronger pace. Royal Ascot's King George V Handicap looks just the race for him, and the faster the ground the better.
One-time Derby entry Dalhaan looks another likely type for a race like that, although he should win a maiden in the meantime. Having been up there he lost his place with two furlongs or so to go, but then ran on strongly in the final furlong when switched towards the stands' side.
The faster ground wasno help to Newbury second Manyriverstocross, and although he ran another good race, he never quite had the pace to mount a serious threat.
The first four came right away from Nemo Spirit, who weakened quickly, and dual bumper second Cyborg, who made quite a promising move from the back of the field before getting left behind again in the final furlong.
William Muir reported that Nemo Spirit was unsuited by the ground.
