MEKONG MELODY, who did not race at all last year, was among the least exposed, and she travelled well under a patient ride. She travelled strongly in behind the leaders two furlongs out, and when she was switched right for her effort after the false rail ended, she was soon challenging for the lead. Badalona proved a tough nut to crack, but she always had the edge through the last half furlong or so.
Badalona has never been out of the first two and she made a highly satisfactory reappearance in second. Although it's true she pretty much had the run of the race, shefinished nicely clear of the third and has clearly trained on well.
Marraasi and Binfield were among those who were keen enough, and they did not do badly in the circumstances.
Very disappointing, however, was last year's Kempton all-weather winner Albaraari, even allowing for the steady pace. Having been held up at the rear of the field she never really promised to improve her position.
