Two from two now here, he had shown himself suited to the track last year when winning over 5f and clearly enjoys faster ground and this tight track. He could run again today back over 5f under a 6lb penalty but he has struggled when rated in the 80s and took full advantage to an eased mark here.
Fathsta could not overcome his outside berth and took a nudge at halfway that saw him lose more ground just as he was looking to improve. He still had fully eight lengths to make up on the winner off the home bend. He has returned to turf in top form after a great all-weather winter and should surely gain compensation even off this higher mark.
Good Gorsoon travelled as well as anything through the race in the pack and back over this extra furlong he ran on well. His consistency does not bring him any help from the handicapper.
Silver Wind has got a shade closer to Fathsta than four days ago at Salisbury but again could never get into contention. He took a big bump from the weakening Pearl Dealer, had run too free, off the home bend when looking to make headway. He plodded on under his big weight unlike the rest of the pack, who could not remain competitive from the home bend.
The Game got upset in the pre-parade but showed pace from the plum draw before getting hampered and all his troubles caught up with him as he weakened.
