Nothing threw down the gauntlet asLight Shift had done 12 months earlier and showed themselves emphatically a leading Oaks contender, but that was partly as they did not go a great pace so that several raced keenly and they were not that strung out at the finish. SAIL is certainly aninteresting prospect as she did well to win as she did on only her third appearance, coming from off the pace, making headway from over 2f out and leading inside the final 100 yards. She was value for a little more than her winning margin and certainly shaped as though she will be suited by a step up to a stiffer, more galloping 1m4f - and she almost certainly has more improvement in her so should be up to scoring in pattern company.
Sugar Mint was one of the few already proven in Group class, having finished fourth in the May Hill Stakes last autumn, and she proved she remains a smart filly at three, leading over 1f out until the final 100 yards, shaping as though she was suited by this step up to middle distances.
Early leader Queen Of Naples was ridden and had less than a clear run over 1f out, then edged right but kept on under pressure for a creditable fourth, ahead of Try Me, who showed further improvement, soon to the fore but understandably no extra in the final 1f.
Silk Affair was not at all disgraced on her step up in class, though never dangerous, but Laughter could not bridge the gap from maidens as the betting had suggested she might, outpaced on the home turn, and once-raced Rio Guru could never challenge. Dancing Abbie raced too freely and was eased once beaten.
