ERMINE GREY had not won since scoring at Haydock in July of last year, but his trainer felt he appreciated the return to turf having failed to win during a busy spell on the sand lately.
Having chased the pace early, he was produced with his challenge widest of all, more towards the middle ofthe track, and ran on strongly. He does not win all that often and a rise in the weights will probably be enough to stop him following up.
Dancing Storm was never too far away and stuck on for pressure to take second. This was a creditable effort after six months off the track and she is entitled to come on a little.
Miss Porcia ran a good race from 6lb out of the handicap after 209 days off the track. She is only rated 45 and would be of some interest if her connections could find a moderate classified event before she is reassessed.
Merrymadcap, well backed in the morning, looked dangerous with about three furlongs to run, but he failed to pick up as one might have expected. He had run well on both his previous starts this year, but this was a little disappointing.
