This apprentices' sprint handicap was a modest but very tight affair with only 7lb separating the top and bottom weights but few actually got competitive.
IMPERIAL SWORD had won with cut in the ground in the past and that obviously helped here as he came from unpromising position at the top of the straight to collect.
He was actually thrown in at the weights as his last winning mark was 75 and he got in off 49. Given some soft ground again, he is undeniably well handicapped and it would not be a great surprise if he was able to go close again in another of these races.
Puskas, sporting blinkers instead of the usual visor, posted a seemingly improved effort and he may well have won on quicker going as he got very tired in the conditions.
Kennington finished widest of all but to say he was unlucky in any way is misleading as he is very well exposed.
Norcroft and the winner were tied into the same line of form at Yarmouth last time but he was beaten further here and wants fast ground.
