A fourth in a 5f maiden on soft ground at Navan last season was the best of his previous four attempts and, after being switched right as he began to close from midfield under 2f out, he ran on inside the final furlong to snatch the verdict close home.
Impossible Dream, winner of a 7f maiden on yielding ground last season, was trying this trip for the first time. Always in the front rank, he went on over 2f out and kept on quite well, giving best only near the finish.
Carrie McCurry, placed on the all-weather at Wolverhampton as a two-year-old, had finished off last season by running fifth over this trip at Navan.
Quench The Flame, running in his first handicap after three runs in maidens, showed enough tosuggest he can win a handicap when going back up in distance.
Glenconnor Lad, another running in his first handicap following three runs over 7f last year, also indicated that he will have possibilities in future handicaps, more than likely when going a bit further.
Nortburn, twice a winner over the trip last year, had shown his ability to cope with this type of ground.
However, he never really looked like justifying favouritism here and could make no impression from 2f out.[TOH]
